Starting Leather Social Oslo

The leather scene in Oslo is quite small, but none the less I know of at least nine or ten leather guys in Oslo, and there are more. At the moment we have one gay leather/fetish bar in Oslo (SLM), but there are few guys in leather. Actually it seems like the dress code becomes looser every year. As you probably know it requires a couple of guys in leather to not feel overdressed, so then the work to “recruit” more started.

A friend of mine has invited to a Leather meetup before going to SLM, the interest was good, but few guys came. So we discussed how to get all Oslo’s Leathermen together, and thought of Leather Social in Berlin and London. In the last few months the idea of starting Leather Social Oslo has been brewing.

It has been lots of discussions over a pint of beer at SLM Oslo on how to do this. But now it is about to take shape into something definite. A simple social happening, without any pressure. Visit leather.social to read more about Leather Social Oslo and the event we will have in October.

Time to clean your leather?

After a week with Statfest, CSD auf der Spree and CSD in Berlin, and 30 degrees, my leather shirt began to show some white sweat marks on the back, chest and under the arms. And I thought “How the h*ll do I get this of”, it’s a Mr.B shirt to several hundred euros.

After some searching on the Internet i found several tips and tricks on how to clean leather jackets and pants. I summarise all of them like this:

  • Use a mild cleaning agent, like something meant for baby skin.
As stronger agents might discolour or even destroy the leather.
  • Rinse thoroughly with water to remove any residue of the soap.
Residue might itch and make the leather stiff.
  • Dry slowly in normal room temperature.
If drying too fast the leather will become stiff and brittle.
  • Apply leather conditioner before it is dry and afterwards.
This is to replace the moisture from the water with something more durable.
  • Store it in a ventilated space, so it do not mould.
Important to have in mind:

  • If you are unsure what to do or if you want to do this yourself at all, then don’t. Use a professional cleaner that knows how to handle leather.
  • It might shrink a bit, it did for me.
  • This is the first time I’ve cleaned leather so I might have done some mistakes.

What I actually did

I used:

  • Baby shampoo (without perfume)
  • Black leather oil
  • Leather Balsam
  • Several sponges
    • One for cleaning
    • One for oil
    • One for leather balsam
  • A towel
  • 30L plastic container
  • One solid clothes hanger, with wide shoulders.

Checking the cleaning agent

I first of all took some baby shampoo on a part of the shirt where it would not be noticed it it stained. Just to be sure. Waited for some minutes and wiped it away. I could not see any difference (discolouring or similar).

Cleaning the shirt

I filled the container half full with water, added about 4-6 cl of baby shampoo and stirred well. Then I lay the shirt into the water, pressed out all the big air bubbles and used a sponge to wipe gently on the biggest spots. I pressed carefully on the shirt a couple of times to circulate the water, and I left it covered in water for 4-5 minutes before I took the shirt out.

The water becomes quite black after the colouring agent used in the shirt and the black leather oil which I have previously used on the shirt. So do not be alarmed if the soap water looks black/dark purple.

I pressed on the shirt to remove some soap water. Mind do not twist or squeeze the shirt it might damage it. After I had replaced the soap water with clean water I rinsed out the soap by pressing gently on the shirt. I replaced the water several times and repeated the process until I did not see any more soap bubbles. And yes, the water will still become a lighter shade of black/purple.

I carefully pressed out as much water as possible with a towel before I left it to dry on the clothes hanger for a couple of hours. I made sure to dry it in normal room temperature, without any heating. And also remove as much water as possible from the buttons so they would not rust.

Moisturise it!

After a couple of hours, the shirt was still soaking wet, I began the work of oiling the garment with black leather oil. I used black oil to replace any colour that might have been lost in the wash. Make sure to cover the whole piece, also inside the pockets, but not on the flesh side of the hide.

I did this the first time in the evening, repeated it the morning after, and after work. I left it to dry in as before. Feel free to oil it another time if you feel it needs it. When it was dry I used Renapur Leather Balsam, it contains different oils and bee wax, I covered the whole shirt. Inside the pockets, underneath the shoulder strap/passant, on the backside of the placket, everywhere the topside of the hide was visible.

Done

I’m really satisfied with the result, it both looked and felt like new. And the most important part, I could not see any white areas.

Short trip to Gothenburg

From Oslo to Gothenburg it is about four hours by train. It is the second largest city in Sweden. I’m sorry to say that Gothenburg doesn’t seem to have much of a fetish scene, if any at all. Even though the city is big and inclusive of LGBTQ people. There is a Scandinavian Leather Man Göteborg club, but they did not have any events in the summer. Have to revisit when they have some kind of party or event.

We found a nice bar and restaurant just inside the moat, called “bee”. I’m not sure if it is a gay friendly straight bar or a straight friendly gay bar, the line is a bit blurry, if it exists at all. Good wine and nice service. It is the first place I have visited where two half bottles of wine is cheaper than one full bottle.

We visited “Liseberg”, it is an amusement park in the middle of the city. As I tweeted, some of the design of the area around the rides reminds you of other forms of amusement. Some a bit steampunk inspired, and other more like a modern factory maze. See more pictures under the tweet

Some pictures from Oslo Pride 2016

Here is some pictures from this last weekend in Oslo. I was a bit too busy to be able to take any more, sorry.

Oslo Pride has started!

Oslo Pride stated already last Friday, but it is first now I’m back in town after a short trip to London. Just in time to join most of the parties at SLM.

Tonight SLM Oslo have a young fetish party, where the age limit upwards is 35. Tomorrow (Thursday) it is an open fetish party, this time for everyone, also women are allowed to enter (that is not often). I’m not sure if I will go, early and long day on Friday. Then it is the Official leather pride at SLM, a party I’ll have to go to.

On Saturday the pride parade starts at twelve from Grønland. All the way to the Pride Village via Oslo Spektrum and Stortorvet. I will probably walk with SLM this year. That evening is the Pride closing party aka “Skeiv Natt” at Rockefeller Music Hall.

All week there is activities, stands and shows in the Pride Village. It is located in “Spikersuppa”, between the parliament and National Theatre.

Which reminds me that the Pride Village opens today at three o’clock, and I have to get into my leather and on my way. Will try to get some pictures out in a day or two.

PS. Check out the whole program for Oslo Pride at oslopride.no

#loveislove

This is a hard day, a difficult day, with so much sadness. So many lost their lives by the hands of a homophobic madman. A man so close minded and brainwashed that he goes into a nightclub and shoots as many as he can. Not targeting a specific person, but a group as a whole. In a place where they thought they would be safe to show who they were. My thoughts are with the victims, their friends and family.

Many will probably link this to Islam, but that is wrong. This was not the average Muslim, this was a madman which you can find of any religion or belief. Just see the Norwegian terrorist Anders B. Breivik who did just the same. I’m still embarrassed by how some of the Norwegians acted towards Muslims before the identity of the attacker was known.

Remember, this is terror, the goal is to make us afraid, to keep us of the street, to stop us showing affection in public, to keep us in the closet. I will not accept that. This summer I will march in the Pride parade to show we will not be frightened, we will not hide, we are out and we are proud!

New store for men in Oslo – 2BE

Update (2017-06-13): After seeing some activity on this old post. I regret to inform you that this store is permanently closed.

Well, it has been there for some time now. It is a store focusing on underwear and swimwear for men. Even if such stores are found in every big city it is quite unusual in Norway, it seems like Norwegians think male underwear shouldn’t be sexy.

The store is located in Tollbugata, just a couple of blocks from our main street “Karl Johan”.

This is the only store in Oslo (as far as I know) there you can find:

  • Andrew Christian
  • Addicted
  • ES
  • Barcode
  • AussieBum

This store is not directly fetish oriented, but you might find some cool stuff anyway. I hope that every guy in Oslo use this store, as I like that the concept has come to town. I’m going to find myself some bathing shorts later today.

Check out their web shop at 2be.fashion

It’s already summer!

The times moves a bit too fast, and the summer is here. And it is hot, if my leather shorts hadn’t been just a bit too short I would have used it out in public. The heat was never a problem when I lived in northern Norway.

Summer means that the holidays are coming up.  In a couple of weeks, I’ll go to London for a long weekend. As I’m going with family it will probably be low key. But I have to do some shopping, I want some new toys and tools.

Then it is strait to Oslo pride. It lasts for a week. SLM Oslo has several parties this week. I will miss the first party on Saturday 18th as I’m not back from London yet. But on Wednesday I’ll be ready for “Young fetish night”, it is a party with both a lower and upper age limit. Often a good place to let young guys test out their fetishes and also recruit new members to SLM. On Thursday, SLM is open to everyone, also females. I’m not sure if I will join them, as that is not quite my cup of tea. But Friday is the “Oslo Leather Pride” party, a must for every leather man in and around Oslo. The parade is in Saturday the 24th, and that is the last day of Oslo Pride. The closing party at SLM is a more usual Fetish night.

Then my vacation starts for real, three weeks of not working (yea, right…). Not much planed yet, except for towards the end of July, I’m heading for Berlin for the Statfest and the CSD Berlin, this has become a tradition. The only thing I’m certain of is that I’m going on “CSD auf der Spree”, river boats with queer people. I’m going on the Leather and Fetish boat of course. I will probably come back to what happens in Berlin when it is a bit closer to departure.

Valhall @SLM Oslo

Tonight is the biggest party of the year. No, it is not Eurovision Song Contest, but Valhall at SLM Oslo. This is the closest thing to leather/fetish pride you come in here in town. We will also celebrate the club’s 40 years anniversary, quite impressive isn’t it?

The doors opens at 23:00, and the DJ for tonight is DJ Skorm Volt. Remember to sign up to be able to enter. Read more at SLM Oslo’s website.

CSD Berlin 2016

CSD Berlin keyring out of leather pantsCSD in Berlin is one of the biggest gay pride event in Europe. In 2016 it happens on Saturday July 23, a month later than usual due to the football EM-cup. This year they have decided to use the motto or slogan if you will “Danke für nix”, or translated into English “Thanks for nothing”. It is a reaction to the German Bundestag (parliament) not voting same sex marriages (or gender neutral marriages) into law last fall. It will be interesting to see how this will be used under the event. To hear a speech given by a passionate and a bit angry German is still a bit unsettling, even if the subject of the talk is equal rights to all.

Well, back to the event. It starts with a parade from Kurfürstendamm (near the Berlin Zoo) and walks towards Brandenburger Gate, via Nollendorf Platz and Siegessäule. Between the Siegessäule and Brandenburger Gate is the Pride Village. With a lot of stalls, where you can buy drinks, food and other commercial products as well as visit different organisations. You will also find a couple of stages with different DJs in this area. At the Brandenburger Gate you will find a big stage with speakers, bands and entertainment. The Pride Village closes at midnight.

Tip: Make sure to have cash before you get there, it might be hard to find an ATM that still contains any money.

There is lots of people everywhere, the forest around the Pride Village (Tiergarten) becomes a crusing area, or a bigger crusing area than normal. They even set up big floodlights in the forest in the evening (at least they did last year). These lights make some parts of the forest a bit like an episode of X-files.

I recommend to check out BLF (Berlin Leather and Fetish e.V.) beer wagon. It is a natural gathering point for Leather men and other twisted guys. Maybe I see you there?

As always, play safe and mind the Jägermeister.
